Getting started

Connect Claude or ChatGPT

Updated 1 Oct 2026 · 4 min read

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your Footing account. Then ask it how your jobs are tracking, or have it add leads, log defects and draft quotes for you.

Before you start

  • You need a Claude or ChatGPT account.
  • You sign in with your usual Footing email. Footing emails you a code, so have your inbox handy.
  • Copy your connection address. In Footing, go to Settings, then AI Assistant, and click Copy under Your connection address. For most people it’s https://app.getfooting.com.au/mcp.

Each person connects their own assistant. It works as the person who connected it, so don’t share one.

Connect Claude

  1. Open Claude’s connector settings.

Go to claude.ai/settings/connectors. In the Claude apps, it’s Settings, then Connectors.

  2. Click Add custom connector.

Paste the address, then click Add.

  3. Click Connect.

Footing opens. If it asks, sign in with your usual Footing email and the code.

  4. Choose your access, then click Allow.

You go straight back to Claude, ready to ask.

Connect ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors.

  2. Turn on Developer mode.

    It’s under Advanced settings.

  3. Click Create.

Name it Footing, paste the address, and choose OAuth for authentication.

  4. Click Connect.

Footing opens. Sign in with your usual Footing email and the code.

  5. Choose your access, then click Allow.

Connect Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http footing https://app.getfooting.com.au/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, pick footing, and sign in when your browser opens. The same command, with your address in it, is on the AI Assistant page under Claude Code.

Full access or read only

Before you click Allow, you choose what the assistant can do:

  • Full access. It can see and update your jobs, quotes, invoices and costs.
  • Read only. It can see your data but can’t change anything. A good pick for a cautious first go, or on ChatGPT Plus.

Some assistants ask for read-only access. Then Footing doesn’t offer the choice, and you can’t switch it to full access on that screen. The assistant won’t be able to create, send or approve anything.

What the assistant can see and do

  • It acts as you. It can only see and do what your role in Footing allows, nothing more.
  • Footing marks anything that sends something to a client, approves money or deletes a record. Assistants are told to check with you before they do those. Read what it’s about to do before you say yes.

Things to ask

  • “What needs my attention?” Overdue invoices, quotes waiting on an answer, jobs over budget, leads that have gone quiet.
  • “How’s the Smith St job tracking?” Margin, costs, what’s invoiced and what’s owed.
  • “Add a lead: Jo Brown, bathroom reno in Coburg, call her back Friday.”
  • “Log a defect on Smith St: cracked tile in the ensuite.”
  • “Add a site note to Smith St” or “Log 6 hours for me on Smith St today.”
  • “Draft a quote for the Coburg bathroom” or “Draft an invoice for stage 2.”
  • “What cash is coming in this month?” or “Show me work in progress.”

Disconnect an assistant

  1. Go to Settings, then AI Assistant.

  2. Under Connected apps, click Disconnect next to the app.

    Click Disconnect again to confirm.

The assistant can’t renew its access from then on. Any access it already has runs out within an hour. You can reconnect any time by following the steps again.

If something goes wrong

  • Asked to sign in. Sign in with your usual Footing email. Footing brings you back to the Allow screen.
  • This connection request isn’t valid. Close the tab and start again from your assistant.
  • AI assistant connections aren’t available on this workspace yet. The AI Assistant page shows this when they aren’t switched on for your Footing. Contact Footing support.
